I have discovered that yes, a 16 year-old Ninja 250 still has plenty of power to feel properly quick even with a 300 lb rider. So next time you hear someone say they got a 1000cc sportbike because “I’m too big for a 250”, they are wrong. Granted, I never got it over 40mph because I was wearing a half helmet and a T-shirt (really need to keep a spare at the office)

On another note, this is now the second bike we have “fixed.” Had a stuck float leading to the same engine-full-of-gas situation we saw before. Thankfully we knew how to fix it. Unfortunately, the carbs on the 250 were a pain to get out, since they’re wedged between the airbox and cylinder heads pretty tightly.

I see these everywhere around campus, they’re cheap and relatively reliable.

Not only are they cheap, they hold value well.

As a former Ninja 250 owner, I know they top out at 91mph with a 250lb rider on them.

Also, mine had the stuck float issue. Add a fuel filter between the petcock and the carbs. Mine kept getting the stuck float issue due to ethanol in the fuel dissolving the seam sealant in the gas tank. Small pieces of sealant were coming down the fuel pickup and into the carb. I had to pull my carbs twice before I put the filter on.

Starter bikes are great like that, because there will always be a new rider looking for a ride.

I love those things. I’ve always wanted to get either one of those or an EX500.

This bike already has one, so it could be it’s had this issue before.
